When such feature will be made available, I suggest to ask the Calibre developers to add a reference to Zim, as an ePUB producer, along with Sigil (a Qt based ePUB editor), in the Calibre Quick Start Guide of John Schember.

...if you export to markdown, you can use pandoc to convert it to epub (or whatever fromat supported by pandoc and there are many)
