Bug Description

Wish:

numbered and alphabetized lists destroy all dates and names (after typing "J. Smith" or "13. 11. 2013" list is always made). Therefore I would prefer to have the possibility to disable these types of lists in preferences.

I recognize the issue, but thinking about a better way to handle this.

Thinking if exceptions in the parsing could help avoid this. Just disabling numbered lists seems a bad way to address it because users will only find the disable button after they run into problems.

For example do not parse lists like this that consist of a single line. Assuming that if you have multiple lines with dates or names, you format as a bullet list anyway.

Would a rule like that help in your case ?

You are right, something like "parsing only if two following lines include following digits/letters" would be much better solution.

I'd like to vote for an option in the preferences (along with any other better solution) to disable the parsing of the lists. May be the option can be notebook-specific and not a global one.

I have recently upgraded to zim 0.65 (unfortunately I don’t remember the previous version number, but it was rather old) and my old notebooks containing multiple lines starting with a date of the mentioned format (DD. MM. YYYY) are converted to numbered list as soon as the page is opened (i.e., without any edit) and the dates are destroyed (and the page saved in this form). That’s very unfortunate.

Maybe I should also note that the dates in the page are not in an increasing order.

Propose moving this item to "Won't fix" since the damage is already done and no easy way to repair it.

In hindsight when introducing numbered lists, we should have bumped to version number of the wiki syntax. Thus allowing to identify notes in the older format and allow upgrading them, e.g. by adding bullets.

Note that numbered list have been introduced in version 0.55 in 2012, can't guarantee any old notes are around, but probably those life in notebooks run with newer zim version for some time now.

Open to more elegant way to handle, but not sure how.
