i too am getting this issue. i previously had the issue with zeitgeist-daemon using over 200MiB of RAM. tonight i followed a few suggestions of upgrading with the zeitgeist ppa, then found that /usr/share/zeitgeist/fts-python/fts.py was using at least 240MiB of RAM.

i am using Ubuntu 11.10 i386

Ian, could you attach your ~/.local/share/zeitgeist/activity.sql to this bug, so we can investigate? (mark it as private before doing so)

How much does your zeitgeist-daemon process require?
How big was your DB before you sent it over...

I see more subjects than events which means you deleted some events i guess
Cheers

@Seif - the disproportional number of uris compared to events seems to be caused by U1 logging its uids in the subject origin field effectively creating twice as many uris as events.

@Michal - That would make sense; in a fresh installation, I notice this doesn't happen, but after enabling U1, this issue occurs reliably.

Yeah we are discussing the issue with Ubuntu1 so we can fix it. Ubuntu1
client is sending redundant events to Zeitgeist (partially our own fault)

Can you do "zeitgeist-daemon --replace"?

I have the same problem (occupying about 700MB of ram in my case) with fully updated amd64 ubuntu 12.10 (upgraded 12.04 on release) .

"zeitgeist-daemon --replace" drops memory usage to approx 700kB

Isn't it a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/zeitgeist-extensions/+bug/757727 ?

Same problem here.

zeitgeist is eating 280MB of ram. After zeitgeist-daemon --replace it drops to 1,2 MB, but a single search in the dash makes it spike to the previous levels.

Here is a simple fix:

Open a terminal and execute this command:
rm -rf ~/.local/share/zeitgeist

This will delete the database that zeigeist-fst has made so far. Then you must(*) restart your PC and it will use 4.9 MB :)

If you don't, the dash search will return wrong results. This will temporary until you reboot.
