Bug Description

Using Karmic Alpha 6. After I log in, the ubuntu logo screen shifts to the top left and I can see my desktop underneath. It stays this way for about five or six seconds and then disappears leaving my desktop showing.

See attached screenshot.

Expected result:
My desktop should appear immediately and not be obscured.

I see the same thing. In my case it is because gnome-settings-daemon is changing my screen resolution for me at login time. Xsplash doesn't seem aware that the screen geometry has changed and just remains its original size.

In my case this looks much worse: not only am I activating a second screen, but the first one changed to a much higher resolution. Only about 1/4 of the first screen has the xsplash window displayed, the rest of the display area shows my background image tiled (which looks bad). Eventually Nautilus receives its own signal about the screen resize event and fixes that for me, but for about 5 seconds things look pretty lame.

I should note that this is indeed because of xsplash not reacting on the resolution change.
When X starts up on my laptop with my external display connected it uses the highest common resolution of the internal and external display in mirror mode, which isn't the native resolution for either one. When I log in g-s-d turns the internal display off and sets the external display to its native resolution. Unfortunately xsplash doesn't react to that by changing its size. This causes the underlying gnome-session to be partly exposed.

Yeah, I've reproduced it here as well. I'll try to get this fixed later in the week and put out a new release.
