Bug Description

Unfortunately I have major issues on my machine Lenovo X1 Carbon with the new 3.5+ drivers. I get loads of these here, while the machine is idling:

[43024.979536] [drm:i915_hangcheck_hung] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
[43024.980013] [drm] Enabling RC6 states: RC6 off, RC6p off, RC6pp off

Others have similar problems with recent kernels:
https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/10/23/38

I have tried with 3.7.0-rc2, same problems.

Attached is a kernel trace.

I pass i915.i915_enable_rc6=0 via grub, but this does not help either.

Best of luck finding this and if I can help, please let me know.

Ok so I tried this with the 3.2, does not work anymore either, constant crashes.
The only that changed was upgrading the distribution from precise to quantal, since then the problems exist.
So it is not a kernel issue per se, but a drm mod problem.
Unfortunately I am not sure how to easily downgrade to another xvideo-xorg-video-intel without screwing up my whole distribution. But that is where the bug resides.
I did not see any newer package on the xorg(testing) page, besides the one in quantal.
Is there a way that I could downgrade to the precise drivers? (I guess not without changing the whole X installation :( )

affects: linux (Ubuntu) → xserver-xorg-video-intel

Hi Erik,
before sending back your machine, you should run the original memtest86+ 4.2 or memtest86 4.0a.
I had the same problems with the memtest shipped with Quantal. But with the original ones (burned on CD from iso) there are no memory problems reported!
Quantals version seems to be buggy.

@Thomas:
THANK YOU VERY VERY VERY MUCH FOR THAT INFO!!!

Indeed, I went and got myself a clean image with memtest and there are no problems, I had exactly the problem you described, that it failed at test #7.
How can they now have a BIG warning of this?
Or is there already a bug for that?

Again, thanks a lot, you saved me a lot of trouble.

I will now do a clean install and hope that my graphic problems are gone.
