Bug Description
Sometimes, at completely random occasions, X suddenly just restarts. The screen goes black for a second, returns to normal for a second, and then suddenly I am brought back to the login screen. If you look at /var/log/syslog there is always this line:
Oct 11 15:27:50 helena gdm[5621]: WARNING: gdm_slave_
The gdm[number] varies from time to time, though. I use Ubuntu in Finnish, and "Vakava X-virhe – :0 käynnistetään uudelleen" means "Serious X error - :0 restarting".
Please look at this forum thread, where I've been asking for help in this case: http://
There you can find a few /var/log/syslog entries and two instances of /var/log/Xorg.0.log
I use Ubuntu 8.04.1
I see the same on Ubuntu 9.04 + NVIDIA 185.18.14 driver taken from www.nvidia.com,
Laptop: Dell D620 laptop
GPU: nVidia Corporation G72M [Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300]
Attaching my XOrg log file, the most interesting lines are: nvidia- auto-select+ 0+0@1440x900" nvidia- auto-select+ 0+0@1440x900" nvidia- auto-select+ 0+0@1440x900" nvidia- auto-select+ 0+0@1440x900"
