2011-02-05 07:13:51 Cliff description Binary package hint: compiz 10.10 live DVD boots up and (I think) runs and acts like it thinks it is displaying the desktop, but it doesn't display. Mouse pointer is displayed over the last of the bootup message text. If before booting, I select F6-nomodeset it comes up and runs reasonably. There are problems (e.g. firefox window is black on black) until I turn off all desktop (3D) effects (they were on medium). This would appear to be a driver problem. It thinks it is displaying, but it is not. The attached lspci.txt shows the display card as ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility U1 Binary package hint: compiz 10.10 regression. This works fine on the 10.04 live DVD, but not on the 10.10 live DVD. Both DVD's were read verified before running these tests. 10.10 live DVD boots up and (I think) runs and acts like it thinks it is displaying the desktop, but it doesn't display. Mouse pointer is displayed over the last of the bootup message text. It switches from the orange and white cycling dots to a text mode display. Actually I think that at that point it tried to change the video mode as setup for going into X and the video mode change failed. If before booting, I select F6-nomodeset it comes up and runs reasonably. There are problems (e.g. firefox window is black on black) until I turn off all desktop (3D) effects (they were on medium). If I use 10.04 it acts the same, but at the very end, the desktop does come up. This would appear to be a driver problem. It thinks it is displaying, but it is not. The attached lspci.txt shows the display card as ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility U1
