I meanwhile did
sudo apt install autoconf

and than
sudo ./autogen.sh

gave this response
Can't exec "autopoint": No such file or directory at
/usr/share/autoconf/Autom4te/FileUtils.pm line 293.
autoreconf: error: autopoint failed with exit status: 2




So I did:
|sudo apt-get install -y autopoint|

and than again
./autogen.sh
resulting in
./configure.ac: line 4: syntax error near unexpected token
`[Xpad],[5.8],[<email address hidden>]'
./configure.ac: line 4:
`AC_INIT([Xpad],[5.8],[<email address hidden>])'

Oh, how I wish I knew what I am doing !  ;-)
