Bug Description

Xpad used to make selected text visible by changing the background of the selected text. Since a couple of months, it seems not to be working anymore (dependecy change?).

If you experience this issue, a possible workaround might be to select 'Use theme colors' in the preferences.

GTK drives me nuts.

There is often something broken, a lot of things get deprecated and because of these two, you have to keep migrating your existing application, which brings a lot of work.

This time, something is again broken, what was working before. I bet it has to do with a new GTK version 3.20 (on my system).

Which GTK version do you have on your system?

hello

i use Manjaro Linux.. up to date. (distro based on ArchLinux, a rolling-release disto).

I have installed GTK3 version 3.20.9 and GTK2 2.24.30 both from the EXTRA repository.

My assumption starts to gets to be more likely right... GTK developers seem to have broken it again.

I'm having the same issue on the latest stable release of Debian XFCE edition (Debian 9.8 XFCE 4.12).

Checking "Use colors from theme" in the preferences fixed it but I would like to be able to have custom colors.

I tested on Debian 10 and now it works.

Hi Caetano,

Good to hear that the issue is resolved in Debian 10.
I am guessing that Debian 10 uses a newer version of Xpad then Debian 9.8.

Which version is included in Debian 10?

it does indeed use a more recent version (5.x) but I tested the latest trunk version on Debian 9.9 and the issue was still there, so I guess there are some GTK updates included in Debian 10 that were also necessary to fix the issue.
