[pad location + sticky] XPad 4.2 on Ubuntu - Notes are opened randomly scattered over workspaces

Bug Description

When I start XPad and reopen my pads in Ubuntu 14.04, they are randomly scattered over all my workspaces, and not on the workspaces where I left them on the latest logout.

It would be nice if xPad remembers on which workspace the note had been.

In conjuntion with that, the standard xPad install does not offer a tray icon, this occurs for other programs too and is due to Ubuntu not supporting the standard way of adding tray icons anymore. This means that unless I apply the following workaround,

http://askubuntu.com/questions/362135/how-to-re-enable-tray-icons-for-applications-in-ubuntu-13-10

That there is no way to open hidden pads in Ubuntu. It would be nice if this were fixed as well so as to offer Ubuntu users a functional XPad out of the box. It's a nice note app.

Hi Tom,

I recall that the issue of the location of the pads has been fixed in the past.

Are you able to try a newer version, for example v4.5 or 4.6 (which is in development)?

Regarding the tray icon this is a known issue to many applications, since Ubuntu decided to change their systray behavior.
Currently Xpad has not adapted to this change. It might one day. :)

The hidden and showing of pads can be done by the command-line.
This functionality used to be broken, however if I recall correct, this is fixed in v4.6.

Can you let me know the results of your testings?

Hello,

This bug is affecting me too, and I really want to keep using xpad.
I just upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04.
I tried version 4.3 but this didn't help.
I couldn't install any later versions due to lack of dependencies (in the repos I suppose).

The bug seems to occur on startup. I like my notes on my second workspace. However when you quit and start again, some appear on the first workspace exactly aligned to the left (x=0). Their info files have been updated accordingly.
Those that remain on the second workspace have shifted seemingly randomly, even though the info files haven't been modified.

(the showing in the tray is a separate issue, I had to install something to get old tray notifications showing and xpad appears there correctly).

Can anybody confirm if this bug is still present in Xpad v4.8 or v4.9?

Should be fixed by https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~xpad-team/xpad/trunk/revision/971

This fix will be part of Xpad 5.2

If you are able to build xpad by the source code, please let me know, if this solved the issue for you.

If this issue wasn't fixed by the previous fix, then it is likely it has been fixed in the following fix.

https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~xpad-team/xpad/trunk/revision/974

The fixes will be available with the release of Xpad v5.2.
