Bug Description

When I open new gnome-terminal, and maximize it, the whole system hangs for 1 or 2 seconds.
After "top"-ping the issue, I found out that Xorg eats > 90% CPU all this time.
On a screenshots attached you can see 91% and 97% cases.

I am unable to replicate that behaviour.

Can you update with a OS version and basic hardware listing.

Also, looking at the screenshot you have a lot of customisation of the desktop theme done. Did this behaviour occur after a fresh install (thinking it might be an obscure theme or add-on misbehaving)?

I have the same issue, but i think it's more a compiz+emerald problem..
maximize other windows achieve the same behavior?

I didn't do a fresh ubuntu installation for years.
I've been upgrading releases only. Since 7.04 :)

But I know for sure, that in 8.04 it worked smoothly, and in 9.04 it started hanging.
8.10 was for me a transactional release for upgrading 8.04->9.04, so this behaviour could start at 8.10, I didn't check.

As for desktop customization - I only rearranged panels and changed wallpaper :)
And as soon as I switched compiz off, terminal maximization works fast.
It means that customization doesn't affect perf.
... or it affects it only in compiz mode.
But I want compiz!

As for other windows - I checked:
 * xterm,
 * nautilus,
 * gedit,
 * totem (even playing music),
 * mplayer (even playing video)
- they maximized normally.
Seems that only gnome-terminal under compiz sucks performance.

SW: Ubuntu 9.04 jaunty + compiz with "Normal" Visual Effects.

HW: Laptop Dell D620
System memory = 2Gb
GPU = Nvidia G72M [Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300]
CPU = Intel Core(TM)2 CPU T5500 @ 1.66GHz

Pretty fast system for maximization of windows, isn't it? :)

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should be a small usability issue , in the default Ubuntu 9.10 install , that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of the project.

For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read > https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as "invalid" ONLY in the papercuts project.
