Bug Description

Screen freezes occasionally while simply browsing the web, can be recovered by ctrl+alt+f1 and ctrl+alt+f7
This has been the case in 14.04, and it's still the case in 14.10 (64 bit)

Still same in Xubuntu 14.04/14.10 also it is not only related to Asus UX32 series laptops, found same issue on Asus U36 SD with Nvidia 520 GT on board. I supprised that only a few people reported this, believe a lot of people have this "pain"

I can confirm this bug.
I installed Ubuntu on 2 laptops, Dell and Asus, both have Nvidia graphics cards and both got same issue.

workaround is to use a usb mouse instead of the touchpad.

I have probably the same issue. System freezes and I have to do hard power off (did not try ctrl+alt+f1 or external mouse). I tried to switch of nvidia and seems it works few hours without freeze. If it occurs I will try to get some logs.

If you can, try to get hold of a friend's gfx card and install that. If everything seems ok then it's either a hardware prob with the 560Ti or a software conflict/corruption/issue (or both). An easy way to find out is to get your friend to install the 560, alternatively try another full re-install of the OS - and only the OS.

Recheck all motherboard seTtings & connections very carefully.

Affects me with UX32VD and external monitor connected.
Linux Mint 17.1, Cinnamon 64-bit.

"[drm:intel_dp_start_link_train], too many voltage retries, give up"

The Ctrl+F1 and back helps to get out of freeze, but I have to do this a lot.

It seems the freeze happens more often if more windows are open..

I already have external usb mouse and external usb keyboard connected, and the external monitor (1920*1080) on micro-vga.

Alberto Salvia Novella (es20490446e) had set this as incomplete because he wanted to see it reported on bugs.freedesktop.org.
This has happened. At least 4 bug reports already exist on bugs.freedesktop.org.
