I also have this problem, and this bug is only in 12.10. In 12.04 xchat-indicator is working without problems.
When I minimize xchat,it goes in message menu, but when I want to maximize it starts new session, and two sessions of xchat are in system monitor.

no longer affects: ubuntu

Im getting the very same result in Ubuntu 12.10 with Unity desktop.

It shows under the mail icon in the upper bar, but whenever I press, and select "XChat IRC" it opens a new instance instead of maxing the one already running.

I cant also get any kind of notification from pms with this upper bar but only with tray balloon and task bar.

The only thing the indicator performs is opening new sessions of xchat. Using 12.10 64 bit here. Indicator does not do much indicating.

Even though this bug is older than #1122853, that bug is assigned and presumably being worked, so I'm duping older to newer.
