Bug Description

HDMI audio works fine with all of my hardware when running 10.04 or 10.10, with minimum tweaks to get it going from a fresh install. I have to build an /etc/asound.conf file and use alsamixer to unmute and turn up several volume settings and that's it, then this command will play a test sound over the HDMI:

  aplay -D plughw:0,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav

I've spent a good two hours and launched this thread with much more detail about the problem at ubuntu forums. There are at least two others posters to that thread in the same situation as me.

My motherboard is a Biostar TForce TF70505-M2, with onboard HDMI, details here:

I'd appreciate seeing a fix on this and am willing to help out with a bit of testing. I'm getting close to just rolling back to 10.10 for now though.

I should also add, the effect we see when running that aplay command again, to do a simple WAV play is: no errors, everything looks like it does on a good system where the test works, but the result is no sound.

Gremlyn1, if you haven't already, check the end of the ubuntuforums thread I mentioned above for what some of us have found as a work around (update to latest Nvidia drivers, in a nutshell).

We really do appreciate you opening this ticket to help improve Mythbuntu, but it needs to be closed for a number of reasons. The biggest one is that upstream believes this to be fixed in the latest version. Could you please verify if this issue still exists in the latest version?

Please do not let the closing of this ticket dissuade you from opening a new ticket if this (or any other) problem occurs with the newer versions.
