Missing 'Chinese' option in language selection

Hi guys,
When i inserted Kubuntu 9.10 Live CD into CD-rom and tried to install it with Wubi, I found that there was no Chinese option in the dropbox under language. Maybe you guys forgot about it.

Agostino, could you please explain a little bit what is the deal with those status changes on 11-03, especially from Confirmed to Invalid. Local community has been complaining about it since the release for lack of Chinese support in Wubi installer. Thank you.

Hi Chih, yes, the issue is not a translation problem, but a wubi bug.

If tests are ok this will be the default version of wubi-installer.org

Hi Agostino, Cool. I did see "Chinese" option in wubi-r168.exe! Thanks for the good work! But, should it be further divided into "Chinese(Traditional)" and "Chinese(Simplified)" as in Ubuntu Desktop? These two language options are very different.

  * Locales: zh_CN, zh_SG
  * Language-packs:

   * language-pack-zh-hans
   * for Gnome: language-pack-gnome-zh-hans-base and
language-pack-gnome-zh-hans
   * for KDE: language-pack-kde-zh-hans-base and language-pack-kde-zh-hans
  * language-support packages:
   * language-support-fonts-zh-hans
   * language-support-input-zh-hans

Chinese (Traditional)
  * Locales: zh_TW, zh_HK, zh-MO
  * Language-packs:

The language-selector-common package (on the LiveCD) contains a script
/usr/bin/check-language-support which when called with -l $LANGCODE
returns a list of space separated packages which should get installed
for that language.
Example usage:
/usr/bin/check-language-support -l de
/usr/bin/check-language-support -l zh-hans

zh_CN was in rev168.
Rev169 also includes zh_TW which should provide traditional Chinese, please check that the latter is also OK.

Chinese(TW) shows up as an option in rev169 correctly. However, during Wubi installation, text are still displayed in Simplified Chinese.

Agostino, another minor thing, the Wubi installation page still showed "Rev 168" while I was actually running your rev169 one.

Chih Ho, once you are installing, have a look at /proc/cmdline as well as c:\ubuntu\install\custom-installation\preseed.cfg (that one gets deleted at the end of the installation) and the Wubi log in your %temp% directory. Check if anything is out of place wrt language set-up. There is a rev170 on the website you can try as well.

Agostino, I tried rev170 and I did not notice anything weird in the log file. The wubi installer is actually in a mixed of Traditional and Simplified Chinese. Please refer to the attached screen shot: the text under "Live CD" option is in Traditional Chinese, the text under "Install in Windows" is in Simplified Chinese and text under "to find out more" is in Traditional Chinese again. The rest of the installation process is shown in Simplified Chinese by the way.

Agostino, the three options I meant to mention are "Demo and full installation", "Install inside Windows" and "Learn More". Precisely speaking, the mixed locale issue only happens when system (in Windows) locale is set to Traditional Chinese. Is it because its translation for Wubi is not complete? If that's the case, as a native speaker, I am happy to help improve it. Please let me know.

Yes it could be because of the translation, or because the way windows locale is not set-up correctly or it is not detected correctly, since for the initial dialog, we rely on the windows language set-up (the log will tell you).

But I am more interested in the way the language you selected (traditional Chinese) is carried over into the final installation (i.e. on the Linux side of things).

Agostino, I believe the "Linux side of things" works correctly after playing with it for a little bit.
By the way, I don't think it is the language set-up in Windows as Wubi installer does respond to Traditional and Simplified Chinese differently. It is just when it is Traditional Chinese, translation in Wubi installer is not complete.
