Bug Description

I attempted to install Wubi 8.04 on an XP SP3 system. It did change boot.ini, but when I rebooted
"Ubuntu" did not appear in the boot menu - only XP. I tried the following:
      uninstalling and reinstalling
checking the wubi install logs - no errors
enabling windows boot logging - no errors
chkdsk /r - no errors found, didn't help

Note - there is an Ubuntu entry in boot.ini, and a c:\ubuntu directory and c:\wubildr.mbr and c:\wubildr
are also present.

I have installed Wubi 8.04 just fine on an XP SP2 system, and I'm a long time *nix user, so I don't
think this is pilot error.

Is it bossible that another boot.ini / bootloader is in use?

XP boot menu can also be modified via control_panel > system > advanced > startup_and_recovery, can you see it there?

Yes, Ubuntu is listed in the startup and recovery options.

I just tried to reproduce the same inside a VirtualBox Windows XP Pro SP3 installation and Ubuntu boot menu installed successfully and worked as expected, under Windows XP SP3. Can you attach your C:\boot.ini file so we can see if there is extra/missing parameters?

This boot.ini seems correct, identical as the one I have here..

New information. After today's (7/9/08) Microsoft patches, it is now possible to boot into Ubuntu.
Ubuntu still does not show up on the boot menu; however, if I set Ubuntu to be the default OS
and I restart the system, it does boot into Ubuntu. Bizarre, but at least it is now mostly working.
