installation stalls after reboot / wubi i386 + wubi amd64

Bug Description

after first reboot after installation, ubuntu starts saying "preparing to run ubuntu for the first time". shortly afterwards the system ends up with a blank screen and no further activity. after forced reboot, it is possible to run both ubuntu and windows.

log files missing:

/var/log/installer
/casper.log
/tmp -> only containing a few empty folders / 1 empty file

C:\ubuntu\installation-logs.zip

i will uninstall, reinstall again and try to get some more log files.

Tobias, I could not recreate this in a VM using virtualbox and windows 8. I will try with windows 7 on real hardware.

i've been trying to recreate the bug with another machine, same
manufacturer, 100 % same hardware + real win7, 95 % same software -
there wubi install passed with no issues, whereas on my testing pc, it
can be reproduced constantly. it's not possible to install wubi without
forced reboot.

for me this means i won't do anymore wubi testing on real hardware.
virtualised win8/xp + wubi both work fine though :)
