Fails to compile for me:

This is a vala 0.28 issue. Try 0.26

I'm having the same problem with a different project. Could i ask how you changed to 0.26?

Only install vala 0.26 (enforce the version in dpkg/rpmbuild configuration) and nothing else.

These issues have been fixed in Vocal 2.0. I'm going to go a head and mark it as fix released because I'm trying to clear out bug reports in Launchpad as I transition to GitHub. Code featuring the fixes will be posted there in the coming weeks.
