The wingpanel network indicator displays virtual network adapters such as vboxnet0. I have not tested for libvirt network adapters, but presumably this affects both.
As a user, I expect that only network adapters which are relevant to my internet connectivity will be displayed. Therefore, all VirtualBox and libvirt networking adapters should not be displayed in the tray.
