Bug Description
I have updated all packages, rebooted a couple of times and now the network indicator on the wingpanel is gone, I do however have Wi-Fi connectivity.

Can you provide more information?
What system do you use? If you use a development version, what happens if you run wingpanel in a terminal?

killall wingpanel; wingpanel -d
