Bug Description

The window picker applet doesn't rotate when the panel is at the side.

On widescreen netbooks it makes sense to have panels as the side since these is plenty of width but not much height to the screen on a 1024x600 netbook. I tried to use two panels at the side. One for menus and notifcations on one side, and the window picker on the other side. However with multiple windows open you can only see the first window in the picker, although if the panel is wide enough you can just see the edge of the second window to it's right.

Thus, the windows are always listed horizontally, even when in a vertical panel. With a panel at the side, the windows you be listed vertically.

Screenshot attached.

Running Hardy with Netbook packages but currently with UMELauncher and Maximus disabled, on Acer Aspire One.

This is something we can consider for future versions, but not 1.0. I suggest we implement this in the Intripid version.

Hi,
I've developed a patch to window-picker-applet-0.4.22 that solves this issue.
To use it, do as follows:
apt-get source window-picker-applet
cd window-picker-applet-0.4.22
patch -p1 < PATH_TO_THE_PATCH_FILE
and then the usual:
./configure
cd src && make && sudo make install
killall gnome-panel

Note that this patch *needs* gnome-panel to be restarted, since the panel orientation is chosen at initialization (I've not implemented yet the orientation change during execution).

I used successfully Luca's patch. Only make install installed in
/usr/local/libexec instead of /usr/lib/window-picker-applet.
I manually copied the file into /usr/lib/window-picker-applet
and it worked.

thanks a lot for the patch

Just putting my screenshot up there. This applet is an excellent replacement for a dock for those who wish to stay on Gnome 2.30. Unfortunately it does not work on vertical panels. :)
