Bug Description

There are only 2x 5 player, 2x 6 player, 1x 7 player and 1x 8 player maps available. It is possible to add more maps in this category?

map design is hard work. the bigger the map, the more work. We will glady include every fair and well made map. This is something that users can contribute, developers will likely work on other stuff though.

Okay. Please add maps that are very often downloaded on http://wl.widelands.org/maps/ so in this case: Advetiset 9 and Quiet Land to the installer.

i disagree. Those maps are not suitable as they are not fair: every player has a different starting position, and they are not meant to be similar. Those are not good maps for multiplayer games.

If a single player wants to play more challenging maps, they can download them precisely there on the homepage. No real need to ship them.

I haven't actually played those two maps, and I have to say that I wasn't impressed by the quality of some of the other maps for download, so the following is meant to be a comment in general only. I don't think maps having different starting positions should necessarily be a criterion for exclusion. We already have some maps with quite different starting conditions in the distribution, and it adds to the variety. Not all maps need to be for multiplayer, and if a high quality map with some of those differences comes our way, then why not include it? The only important thing is that such inequalities that may be considered unfair are mentioned in the map's description.

Maybe a separate category. Instead regular multiplayer maps a 'biassed'
section.
I think it need a bit more obvious beyond a small note in the corner of the
description

Are you sure the maps are covered under a GPL compatible license?

There are no notice which licence is used on http://wl.widelands.org/maps/.
So make a note that every map which are published on this site is under GPL.

With the newly added maps in build18, do we consider effectively fixed? More (good) maps would be nice of course, but I don't know if we need to keep a bug report open for it.

(I do agree we should be more clear on license for map uploaders on the website though, if we aren't already).

I think the authors should decide about how the maps can be shared on the website, not us. However, even if we write that the maps on the website are all GPL it is still prudent to ask the authors if we can include a map in Widelands - and if they agree they have to agree to the license as well.

Otherwise I think this is pretty much fixed for now. I agree that more maps would be nice though.

Absolutely, I definitely agree this choice is up to the creator. :)

However, the website currently doesn't seem to list any license information for the maps. This makes it hard to say whether I can take a map and tweak/rework/remix it or not. (Without any explicit license it would default to copyright, and then you can't really do any of those things.)

My suggestion was merely to display the chosen license (of course chosen by the creator), to make this clearer. I am going off-topic though, and this should anyways be discussed in a separate issue in the website BTS...

(Of course we should also still ask if it is ok to include it alongside with the other maps we ship as part of the game.)
