There could be the same mechanism for every even quantity of players. For 3 or 5 players e.g., it is difficult to find a perfect symmetry in the deformed hexagons, but surely it would be good to have this option (with nearly perfect symmetry) for 3 players, too.
One aspect for the UI is: It's better to already see all player's positions while drawing the map, so one can make a smooth change-over from the region of one player to the region of the next player. In contrast, when a finished one player map is mirrored, the map will have some nonnatural lines between the player's areas.
