Bug Description

Can we add an indication of the viewing area of a building to the existing work area display? It would be quite helpful with military buildings, e.g. if you want to dismantle them in an area where you don't have buildings (yet) but still want to "keep an eye on" (especially mountains).

I am not against this but i feel it is not needed. You could just build a road on the border on mountains and dismantle the military building. Because the carriers have also a view-area, most of the mountains stay visible.

The viewing area of military buildings is something one has to learn when playing widelands. It is just like one has to learn that dismantling military buildings will not force loosing owned land.

In case of implementing it must be considered how this could be visually shown.

The benefit would be pretty much the same as displaying the work area. Sure, one can count the nodes manually but having an overlay for the work area then would be obsolete as well. Counting manually is rather tedious and error-prone. And it costs a lot of time, if you have to do it again and again (not good for powergaming, too :P ).

As for the graphics, what I had in mind was a light blue circle, bigger than the current ones and semi-transparent, if possible. I wanted to make a sample graphic but when I took a look at the current overlays I found out that a third overlay exists (workarea3.png). I have never seen it before ingame, what is it designed for?

Btw. carriers only have a viewing range of 2. Usually that isn't enough to continue building a road. That makes reexploring an area under the fog of war pretty fiddly, unless you already built the roads beforehand, which often isn't possible. Besides, what I personally would be interested the most in is to know, if any area falls under the fog of war when I dismantle a (military) building.

I think it's a good idea, if we can make the graphics work - it's of particular interest when choosing a building to place.

Yes it is currently unused. Just read through the thread regarding workarea rework, the image workarea23.png is also unused. Don't know why i didn't removed them in that branch.

I attached a (edited) screenshot. This is a simple recolour of the current workarea3.png and shows roughly what I had in mind. I'm not sure about the visibility of the colour, I'd be open for suggestions. It doesn't look so bad on this screenshot though and the viewing range doesn't have to stick out as much as the work area itself, in my opinion.
