Black screen in Windows 8.1 after switching to other programs

A friend of mine switched from running a game in Widelands (fullscreen mode) to a different program in Windows 8.1. after switching back to Widelands, the screen was black.

Might be a bit late, but in case this is reproducible I have a couple of questions:
* How did the person switch to another program (alt+tab)?
* What kind of program was it? (Possibly also using opengl and thus may be able to "interfere" in some way? Not that it sounds likely though...)
* Back in Widelands with the black screen, did switching to windowed mode (and possibly back to fullscreen) with 'f' do any difference?

Fwiw I wasn't able to reproduce this on Ubuntu. The only thing I saw was some slight adjustment for changing resolution when it changed back to Widelands. This might appear differently on other platforms, or it could be a red herring too.

I don't know, she did some flailing arond before we found the correct key combination to switch to the other programs. I expect she would have hit the taskbar icon to return.
