I had build 18 on Ubuntu 13.10 at hand so tried with that, but wasn't able to reproduce it (I did get some other seg faults when not specifying a map file or pointing at one which didn't exist, but those are likely unrelated issues.) It seems like ./widelands --dedicated=
(Reminded me first of bug 1128114, but might be unrelated?)
I have since had time to test this myself, but I haven't been able to reproduce the issue. I installed the package from the stable PPA, but it started the dedicated server without any problems. This was the i386 version of 12.04. We probably need some more information to see how this happens in order to track it down...
