Bug Description

According to, it is possible to create a link with the syntax [shown_text](URL_of_desired_site). This works fine in the wiki and in forum posts, but when I tried to include such a link into my signature, the plain text (no link) was shown.
It is possible to include normal links where the displayed text is the URL by simply writing the URL without any formatting stuff.

Links in signatures should not link at all, that is a bug if they do.

This should make it harder for spammers - if they change their signatures, all of their old posts will contain that link. They can therefore post stuff that does not contain links (which will trigger a RSS post and notifications) and later change their signature (which will not create notifications) to link bait people and boost their page rank.

I almost expected this argument and I understand it (I sometimes see the spam posted in our forums). Since I only wanted to link to pages of, I wonder whether these could still be allowed. Alternatively, would it be possible that the maintainer (SirVer? Shevonar?) gets informed when a signature changes and then takes the appropriate steps. (I just wonder because some links might be interesting, e.g. the one of the user "einstein13".)

Sounds like a reasonable suggestion. Right now, nobody is working on the homepage. If you want to give it a shot, let me know.
