Bug Description
Environment:
Debian Sid x64
wicd 1.7.1-1
firmware-iwlwifi 0.35
ThinkPad X220
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (rev 34)
Ubiquiti Nanostation Loco M5
Firmware Version: XM.v5.3.3
Steps to reproduce:
1. Setup an access point with with a unicode character as the SSID, such as ☆, with a WPA2 password
2. Connect to access point with wicd, providing it the WPA2 password
3. Observe
Expected results:
Laptop completes connection with access point
Actual results:
Connection fails. Logs and screen shot attached.
Notes:
So first off I'm a rather big newbie here on how an actual 802.11 connection is completed, nor how WPA exactly works. After some amount of searching on the net, my assumption is that wicd doesn't really know how to properly deal with the unicode SSID, and it needs to feed that SSID to some other WPA tool so that some sort of key gets generated and passed to the AP to finish authentication.
I've tested this over 802.11n 5gHz and on a different AP running 802.11g 2.4gHz.

And if your setup doesn't permit you to see the unicode I'm using...
http:// www.fileformat. info/info/ unicode/ char/2606/ index.htm
Additionally Network Manager can display and connect to this setup just fine.
