Request Code fails

Followed the instructions to install Whatswhere in Raring 64bit, using missing whatswhere and telepathy-whatswhere packages from quantal.

I can launch the application, but I cannot proceed with the Code activation, because the "Request Code" step shown in the YouTube VIdeo Showcase fails with the following error, after filling the phone number form either as +39XXXXXXXXXX or 00XXXXXXXXXX and I have not received any SMS yet.

I received the following response:

This seems to be an upstream bug in yowsup, see https://github.com/tgalal/yowsup/issues/125.
