Bug Description

tinyproxy does not work with dansguardian.

One suggestion might be to consider privoxy, privoxy may have some advantages, one being adblock.

But I've always used tinyproxy with dansguardian. 0.o
Did it stop working recently?

Thanks for the tip about privoxy. I doubt I'll have time to try it
anytime soon though.

Ok, read the bug report. Thanks for linking to it.
My solution was to downgrade the dansguardian version: https://launchpad.net/webcontentcontrol/+announcement/4830
However I haven't used it for a while now, so it's quite possible that it doesn't work as well as I thought.

Ideally, WebContentControl should have support for multiple proxies and firewalls via plugins, but this is still far away. :/

Changed in webcontentcontrol:
importance: Undecided → Critical

status: New → Confirmed

Alright , thank you for looking at that information.

I came across your project and mainly wanted to pass the information on to you.

If you would like, privoxy is IMO very easy to set up and configure and if you would like assistance feel free to contact me and I will help if I can.

I am not familiar with webcontentcontrol and so not sure how easy or difficult it would be to modify.

It's mostly made out of bash scripts, except for the gambas interface
and some python utility scripts.
What needs to be done is change the dependencies of the debian package
and create a script to set user/group and port of the proxy.

If you feel like doing it the important scripts are
webcontentcontrol/scripts/install.sh and
webcontentcontrol/scripts/tinyproxy_setup.sh

Important tinyproxy.conf settings:
=============
#
# Name of the user the tinyproxy daemon should switch to after the port
# has been bound.
#
User proxy
Group proxy

#
# Port to listen on.
#
Port 3128
=============

If you want to know how you can use privoxy with dansguardian, check: http://blog.bodhizazen.net/linux/web-content-filtering-made-easy/

I will check if I can fix dansguardian with privoxy, in this package. Privoxy is a lot better then tinyproxy as well has also some filtering and anonymisation options as well.
