Bug Description

Hi,

I have Ubuntu 9.04, amd 64, dynamic IP and after webcontentcontrol is installed, all works fine, until the next restart when the program (webcontentcontrol) it doesn't start automatically..

I tried to read the manual, but there's no manual...nothing's open when I click on "manual' tab...

thks for support

I haven't created any manual yet, so it's normal that it doesn't work when you click on it.

And what do you mean by it doesn't start automatically?
Webcontentcontrol is just a user interface. It does not need to be run at startup (there is (currently) no icon in the system tray showing that it is running like with most programs in Windows).

What should run on startup however are the following services:
-dansguardian (the real content filter)
-tinyproxy (proxy)
-firehol (firewall (not necessary if browser set to use the filter port directly))

Check the buttons in "advanced settings"->"services" to make sure that those services run on startup.

Also, what language are you running webcontentcontrol in? Or what is your system language?
I only recently implemented translations, so it's possible that using languages other than English introduce some new bugs.

Changed in webcontentcontrol:
assignee: nobody → zoidberg (zohn-joidberg)
importance: Undecided → High

I mean that when I open the web browser ( firefox or google chrome) and if I
try to open a restricted site ( for example www.pornohub.com, or private.com),
I can see the pages and I'm able to navigate on this sites..
I have to go in Alplications ->System -> webcontentcontrol and to click on
the icon..the interface is open and after that, if I close the interface,
all works great...that is I want..not to make this steps..

I've checked what you wrote down and all those services run at start up

I running webcontentcontrol in english..have you got any translation in
roumanian?

Thks for your support

BR

Strange. What version of Webcontentcontrol are you running? How did you
install it?
Do you have to click on a any button for the filtering to work or is it
enough to just start the program?
Can you post the command-line output from when you run it?

Also, next time you boot, try to just run
/usr/share/webcontentcontrol/scripts/check_all.sh instead of
webcontentcontrol.
Normally, it should show:
==========
FireHol is running
TinyProxy is running
DansGuardian is running
squid is stopped
==========

As for the romanian translation, there isn't any yet, but you should be able
to start one here: https://translations.launchpad.net/webcontentcontrol

Nothing really new, but:

I'm not a big fan of the "run in terminal" option. Doesn't seem to work well in any OS.
Open a terminal and run the script from there. (just enter "/usr/share/webcontentcontrol/scripts/check_all.sh" and press enter).
