Yes, I have tried this in multiple ways.

1. Go to Gallery, open a photo, tap it, upper right corner „options” symbol
appears (three horizontal lines). I tap Share, pick Facebook. Thumbnail of
the photo appears, next to a text box. I enter some text, tap Send. After a
few seconds, I get my timeline view, no photo on it. I go to Photos,
thinking maybe it's uploaded, but not on the timeline, but it's not there
either.

2. I open FB app, go to Status on my timeline, choose Photo, pick Gallery.
I choose Photos view instead of Events. I tap the photo I wish to share,
then the tick mark in upper right corner, then Select (with the back arrow
next to it). On the new screen (displaying all photos) I tap the tick mark
again. I get the normal Status text box only (with "What's on your mind?")
- no thumbnail image this way. And no photo gets uploaded after tappibg
Post.

My phone is a Meizu MX4, latest OTA-7. Not quite sure, but I vaguely
remember this working before this OTA... or maybe it was via the browser.

Kind regards,
Csaba

Ok, I have checked this out. Got a bit shocked by what I've found.

I have two FB accounts. For one of them (A), I'm using the "core" app. For
the other one (B), I am using Mitchell Reese's.
<https://uappexplorer.com/apps?q=author%3AMitchell%20Reese>

I am logged in to both accounts (to account A with the core app, to account
B with Mitchell's).

When I share something from my Gallery, it doesn't appear on my account A -
the photo gets shared on the B account (that I am using with Mitchell's
app).

Here comes the weirdest thing: I try sharing the same photo FROM the core
app, using Status -> Photo from my time line (account A). After selecting
the photo from the gallery (described in my former mail as the 2nd way), I
get a no-thumbnail text box (normal Status text box), and tapping "Post"
causes the following message to appear: "The page you requested was not
found."
The photo doesn't get uploaded/shared.

I just verified that Reese's app doesn't use Online Accounts; so, it's
completely separate from the Canonical webapp and shouldn't have any
influence on it. In other words, as far as this bug is concerned, feel
free to use the Canonical webapp alone.

OK.

Wait... there should be some manual process here, the Gallery won't
decide by itself where to upload the photo. Don't you get a page with a
list of applications to choose from, when you initiate the "share"
operation?
If so, is the upload completed successfully if you choose to share via
the Canonical webapp?

It works fine here. Would you be able to take a screencast of this
operation?
Also, I assume that posting just text (with no photos attached) works?

*Wait... there should be some manual process here, the Gallery won't decide

The Gallery doesn't decide by itself. When I tap Share, I get a list of
apps, among which there is Facebook, too. The icon looks like the core
app's (Reese's is different)

*, but choosing this, I don't get any questions - the photo gets shared on
my account B (even though I'm logged in to A, with the core app).*

*I decided to remove Reese's app temporarily, just to test the core app for
a couple of days. So, I will answer your other questions shortly, and send
you some screenshots as well.*

*Thank you :)*

Hi,
I have removed Reese's app, temporarily. Using the "core” FB app, I logged
in to one of my accounts. See Photo, next to Status? I will tap that, and
try to share a photo from my Gallery.

I'll be back with the screenshots.

Ok, I got somewhere with this.
One can have ONE fb account on this phone. In Settings -> Accounts, there
will be one, and I can't add a second one there.

I can log in to a second one, though. But I won't be able to share photos
on the second one, just the "main"account., even though I'm using the core
app only.

Yes, that's correct.

Specifically, this is a Facebook requirement : one can only have 1 single
account on their system, per their terms of services.
