Bug Description

I removed the Amazon package as soon as I installed the new Ubuntu version (with webapps). With a recent update it came back. But here is my main problem: I cannot remove the amazon integration without removing all web apps.

It's great that Amazon is supported, it's ok that it comes preinstalled, but it is not ok if amazon is fused with the core system. I think this is serious enough to be a bug.

You could simply remove or modify the contents of /usr/share/applications/ubuntu-amazon-default.desktop to remove it without removing any other webapps, could you not?

That does remove the link to it, but still: it does not remove the Amazon integration at all. However, I found that although it says it removes other webapps, it secretly doesn't. Although that should probably be another bug.

What specifically does it not remove?

There's the webapp which will be removed by removing the file I mentioned.
Then there's the shopping lens, which is removed via the well documented "sudo apt-get remove unity-lens-shopping"

What _specifically_ do you want to remove. "Amazon integration" isn't a sufficient answer.

Amazon integration should be in a separate package --like other webapps-- so users can easily uninstall it without affecting the whole webapps infrastructure.

in the Software center it is called:
Amazon - Unity WebApp integration scripts
it comes complete with Amazon icon.

in Synaptic it is called:
unity-webapps-common 2.4.10-0ubuntu1 - Unity WebApp integration scripts

i can see why it is needed for the other webapps
i do not see why Amazon needs to be hardwired!

proposed solution:
make Amazon webapp a separate webapp, just like all the others
this way one can uninstall amazon and keep the other webapps.

This bug is obsolete. The Amazon adware now lives in a separate package called ubuntu-web-launchers, which is easily uninstallable at last. And since Ubuntu Phone is no longer a thing, webapps-applications has been abandoned.
