chrashes on timed wallpaper change

Bug Description
I'm using Ubuntu/Linux Mint - MATE, I have a custom wallpaper folder "~/Pictures/
If I choose "change once now" from the tray icon, or choose "set this image as background" from the main window it works properly, but if I activate the timed changes it either does nothing, or crashes immediately, or crashes at the first wallpaper change event.

Just found the "Crashes on clicking 'start'" bug and tried the recommendations. It doesn't crash with "start" now, and does show the time until next change, but doesn't actually change the wallpaper each time.
