Bug Description

I'm new to wallch, installed it via Ubuntu Software Center on:
Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS

My Linux version:
$ uname -a
Linux dor-H87M-D3H 3.13.0-62-generic #102-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 11 14:29:36 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The wallch version that I installed:
wallch 4.0-0ubuntu4

Describing my actions which followed to the bug:
I chose a folder that is full with many wallpapers files/images.
That folder include files & folders (those folders also have wallpapers files).
I left everything else with the default value.
Then I clicked "start" and it took several seconds until it crashed.

Note that the folder that I chose is mounted on a different (internal) HDD.

After the crash, there was a message telling me to report, so I reported about it.

Something important:

That folder of wallpapers is stored in a partition that is NTFS !
Maybe that is the cause of troubles!

Hey dor, thanks for the report.

Please confirm that this has not been fixed by our daily PPA (not the old software center version).

First, completely remove wallch from your system, and remove the configuration files, aka the folders
~/.wallch and ~/.config/wallch:

sudo apt-get remove wallch

rm ~/.wallch/ ~/.config/wallch

Then, install the daily PPA in your system and then Wallch from there:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:wallch/wallch-daily
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install wallch

Hey, I too was suffering from this same issue on my fresh Linux Mint 17.3 (MATE) install. The version that installed with `sudo apt-get install wallch` was 4.0.

Removing configs, uninstall and adding daily PPA, re-installed 4.214 and all is running fine.

Thankyou!

Sorry, I jumped the gun on my response.

4.2.14 isn't able to set a wallpaper at all, including picture of the day, live earth etc. The timer for wallpaper changing does start, and it doesn't crash, but no image is set. This happens regardless of what desktop environment (and restart) is set.

I reverted back to 4.0 because I could still manually set wallpaper and picture of the day works.

Incidentally, I found that by using the icon in the notification area, I am able to start the timer, and full function is attained!
Opening up wallch again after this, the UI Pause and Start button/s work.

This seems to indicate (at least in my case) that the Start button crash is triggered by the UI Start button only. Starting from tray/notification area works.

I have exited wallch and verified this behaviour on my own and it is consistent.

Sorry if this was confusing.

Hei, I experience the same problem using "Linux Hostname 4.4.0-22-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Thu May 5 16:53:32 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux" and Wallch Version 4.0 from the store.

Launching Wallch from the Terminal gives this error message when pressing start:

$ wallch
QEventLoop: Cannot be used without QApplication
QDBusConnection: system D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
Error: Could not connect to the local socket server.
Floating point exception (core dumped) (<- this happens after pressing start) and then the application crashes.

I am also experiencing a crash with the 4.0 version of wallch. If I use a local directory of pictures and click "Start", the app ignores the first click and crashes on the second click.
Plus, I'm seeing problems with live earth and picture of the day; they complain "There was a problem while trying to download what you requested. Please check your internet connection." However, my internet connection seems fine.
Unfortunately, I cannot use the PPA to install the updated daily version to try that out. I am on ubuntu zesty, and apt-get update claims that there is no zesty release available for wallch.
Can you nice folks make the zesty version available please?
Thanks,
fred.
