vmbuilder ignores many settings in ~/.vmbuilder.cfg

VMbuilder, using the nightly ppa appears to ignore the following options when in the ~/.vmbuilder.cfg:

 * rootsize
 * swapsize
 * templates

Some values from the file are used, so I know that the file is being read, for example, libvirt, bridge, user and name.

I've seen this too, to be honest it's a complete crapshoot which options are required on the vmbuilder commandline and which will be picked up from the cfg file.

You not seeing the pattern != completely random.
