External attachments don't "display"

Bug Description
When an external attachment is present (typically after saving and deleting it), the MIME button shows "[display]". But clicking mouse-2 gives an error saying that the buffer is read-only.
On the other hand, picking "display as text" using mouse-3 works ok.
