Bug Description

Version 36.0 of firefox removed the option "-remote". The function "browse-url-firefox" adds this flag unconditionally. The effect is that clicking on a URL just brings up a new window with the home page, not the desired URL.

The removal is controversial, see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1080319 The option might reappear for a while, but it seems clear it is deprecated.

So I suggest "browse-url-firefox" is remade to call "firefox" in the recommended way. See for example comment 5 of the Mozilla bugzilla for a "translation" table.

Hi Goran, browse-url is part of Emacs. Please see this thread:

  https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/emacs-devel/2015-03/msg00039.html

I will keep this bug report open until they have released a fix.
