@Ray, hi.

It is reproducible? Or it just happened once?

Also, can you pinpoint the message in syslog which makes you believe the crash happened in Nouveau? And describe what you were doing at the time when it crashed.

It is reproducible. I switched back to the nVidia-provided driver, but can go back to Nouveau if to reproduce it again if needed. It happens when I leave VirtualBox overnight with my Windows 8.1 64-bit guest running. I _think_ it happens when the Windows guest decides to blank the screen, but I'm not 100% sure as I've always been asleep when it happens...

Along with the above message regarding libdrm_nouveau.so.2.0, the messages below from nouveau were also what led me to believe it to be a nouveau problem, although clearly it could be something VirtualBox is messing up when calling nouveau that causes the trap.

How did you install Virtualbox? Is it virtualbox-nonfree? Or did you get it from the Virtualbox website? Or is it the Ubuntu package?

Can you verify the version of Virtualbox you're running?

Ray Cole (the-other-ray-cole) wrote :

I installed it by downloading virtualbox-4.3_4.3.18-96516~Ubuntu~raring_amd64.deb from virtualbox.org. I also have the extension pack installed. I've been running VirtualBox from there (obviously different versions) for several years. The video driver from nVidia works a little better, though I do keep 3D disabled for my VM because if I have 3D enabled with the nVidia driver iTunes will not let me into the store (and other 'odd' behavior). But since this is about Nouveau I won't side-track you with more details on that :-)

Hi,

This looks like an upstream issue then.

Some info on 3D support in Virtualbox: it will only work with mesa 10.1.0. If you upgraded to 10.1.3 you need to get the guest-additions version 4.3.18 (they're at 4.3.10 in Qiana/Trusty).

The guest additions match the version of VirtualBox installed (4.3.18).
