On Ubuntu 16.10, Variety stopped working after KDE-Desktop install

Variety version: 0.6.3
Desktop Environment: Unity
Version of Ubuntu: 16.10
Variety log is attached.
I installed kde-desktop on Ubuntu 16.10. Since the installation of the kde-desktop, variety has stopped working in Ubuntu (Unity Desktop), too. Variety loads on start-up, but does not seem able to change the wallpaper, or else always the same wallpaper is loaded. Attempts at manually changing the wallpaper via variety >> image >> next / previous are futile.
