Bug Description

/home/geoff/Pictures/Screenshot from 2015-08-10 20:30:51.png
All seem to degenerate to this reed glass effect ?
Tried every option within Variety and Appearance, Screen display and Brightness and lock.
All to no avail, symptoms and results remain the same.
Variety version 0.5.3
I have on three previous occasions upgraded to 15.04 and this is were the problem lies.
I have retreated to 14.10 and all stable, each and every time the machine is upgraded to 15.04 this occurs???
The problem is ongoing throughout the time the machine is running.
Not sure of desktop environment can find no specific information via details or the any of the above display controllers.

Please exit Variety and change the wallpaper manually from Appearance settings - is the picture clear, or the same?

Good day to you,
Using Appearance alone has always been crystal clear and stable
And as requested when change over from Variety to Appearance and manual
changes remain stable and clear.
A return to active 'Variety' returns the 'Reed Glass Effect' immediately.
Not mentioned in the first request.
I have a second machine in my work shop which has exactly the same problem
when running 'Variety' under Ubuntu 15.04.
As with the first machine a return to 14.10 resolves the issue.
Being forced to upgrade due to discontinuation of support from Ubuntu for
14.10 has not helped any.

Regards.
Geoff

Does this still occur under 14.04 ?

Firstly Compliments of the season.
A wish for a Happy and Prosperous 2016 to you and your family.
Ok. Knock me over with a feather!
A story to tell.
Having no success with 15.10, I migrated to Mint. But after 2 months of
increasing screen hangs, freezes what ever, I decided to return to 15.10,
this week have re-installed 15.04, and thereafter upgraded to the 15.10 and
the problem immediately began again with screen corruption.
I ventured into the beta 16.04 to see if any changes were available, to no
avail, the migration took the problems with it.
I returned to the reasonably stable 15.04 with a vow not to upgrade to
15.10.
I am a normal PC user with very little savvy to delve inside. The
corruption seem to be lingering in that, LibreOffice documents are also
corrupt.
Display corrupts when a missing font is (not seen) in a sentence or
paragraph. Similar to loss of TV lines. As a text box, passing the box
through the particular area of the screen returns the missing letter font,
favourites for loss are L,H, J and O doesn't seem to differentiate between
upper or lower case, or a specific area of the display.
As said similar to the loss on a line/s on a TV screen.
It is liveable, as I do not lose work, a (Mint screen crash. Which can only
be resolved with a shut down, thus losing work done).
Other's responded to my bug report but no feed back or solutions were ever
received.
Many thanks again for you message.
Regards.

Really, have you tried 14.04? The LTS releases of Ubuntu are usually a lot more stable than the intermediate ones (such as 14.10, 15.04 and 15.10). Another thing comes to mind - if your display or fonts configuration is borked for some reason, upgrades won't fix it, you may need a clean install - have you tried one?

Also, such display glitches are very often the result of some bad video driver, or incompatibility between your video driver and your video hardware. Some Nvidia/ATI cards are still pretty poorly supported in Linux... On some machines the open-source drivers work better, on others - the proprietary drivers... It may be worth playing with this.

Good day to you,
Sorry for late reply.
I have resolved issues with screen stability.
I fitted a Nvidia Quadro card and all smooth, seems problems being
generated by HP's Intel graphics.
Best Regards for the future.
