Variety does not work in the Ubuntu 15.04 development environment

Bug Description
In the Ubuntu 15.04 alpha development environmnet variety dowloads wallpaper and changes at login but it does not automaticvally switch or allow you to change via the variety interface. The only working change is at login. I also tried with the beta version of variety. This is a note to get ahead of the 15.04 release --I relaize this is alpha but it is pretty stable at the moment
Tried with version 0.4.20 and 0.4.21

The built-in Appearance dialog does not work until reboot either. https:/
