unable to install

This is a new install of Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS. Using Unity desktop

First thing installed, Chrome, worked fine.
2nd thing, NVidia drivers (seem to work, my 2nd monitor started showing)
3rd thing, Variety.

(Tried rebooting, also tried setting a wallpaper manually to see if that helped.)

I try running it in its
/opt/extras.ubuntu.com/variety/bin
 directory and get the following
