Variety is not starting due to drive for downloading not mounted

variety in not starting even afer re install, i booted linux and it just dont start.

i also saw: Variety may refuse to start because of incorrect lock/PID checking

but i'm fairly new to linux and dont understand how to delete .lock file u said.
basically i installed variety and after reboot it did not start, and by clicking in dash also.
even after reinsall.

plz tell me how to solve this issue.

Please start Variety in a terminal with

/opt/extras.ubuntu.com/variety/bin/variety -v

and afterwards send me the log file (~/.config/variety/variety.log), as well as the output on the terminal.

i tried this command: killall gnome-panel
and tried running through terminal, and now its working.

ok i found the mistake, the drive i'm saving wallpapers dont get mounted in
reboot, that why variety was not starting.

I guess you don't have the log with the error anymore, but if you keep it please attach it here - this will help me fix the behavior for other users.

hi, i am very new to linux, just installed 2 days ago and learning,
i searched for top 10 things to do after installing linux, and on each
search your app was always suggested.
And i know why, bcoz it is indeed that much worth. Great app.

i'm not able to find the config folder you referred me to get the log from,
thats why i am not able to provide log.

*I found an other problem:
After uninstall, and verifying that variety was deleted from opt/
i reinstalled thinking in mind that it would set up variety with default
settings, but somehow it have remembered my custom configuration for
download path which is my mounted drive. @ 1st install the path was my
home@pictures i guess, not sure don't remember anymore.

Never mind about the log, it is not so important. Config path is ~/.config/variety.

"~" in Linux means your home folder (/home/username), so the full path is actually somehting like /home/bsienn/.config/variety

Ok, the a dot before config.
that is what i leaned today is that its hidden files. so i had to ctr+h to
view the conf folder u was referring to. Got it.

What i earlier told u about on uninstall, the config files remains on
system casuing a noob like me problem.
bcoz i assumed on reinstall the config folder will be deleted and default
settings will work.
Shouldn't it delete the config folder of variety on uninstall?

here is the log file for me previous bug report.
if drive is not mounted, variety will not start and no warning given unless
ran from terminal with -v command.

Reinstall and uninstall normally leave all config files on the system and only reinstall/uninstall the application files. "purge" is the command to use if you want to completely remove a program, including the config files. However, this does not work on Variety at the moment - config files can be removed only manually.
