Bug Description

Ubuntu 14.04LTS
logger from util-linux 2.20.1

Some switches are silently ignored:

     -s, --stderr
Output the message to standard error as well as to the system
              log.

Doesn't work as documented - there is no output on stderr when using this switch

     -n, --server server
Write to the specified remote syslog server using UDP instead of
              to the builtin syslog routines.

Doesn't work as documented - there is no network traffic to the specified host, the message is logged to the local syslog

Can't tell if "-d" and "-P" work correctly as I can't get logger to send over the network.

The '-n' problem is known about but nobody seems to be fixing it.

The bug you reported does not apply to the logger application. I think you may be referring to a different logger application. This logger application contains the following switches:

-d, --daemon
--data
-e EMAIL, --email=EMAIL
-h, --help
-r DAYS, --retain-DAYS
-v, --version

Changed in logger:
status: New → Invalid
assignee: nobody → Ben Kietzman (ben-kietzman)
importance: Undecided → Low
