USB 3G card not working

Binary package hint: modemmanager

In my Natty beta1 installation, my 3G USB card does not work. It is a HUAWEI E1692 model.
The device is not recognized.
The LED in the card to show the connection status is blinking (meaning the card is powered and the connection is down).
I cannot even run the program to manage the connection (a proprietary one from the installation partition) from the menu.

Even following instructions at comment #6 the device is not recognized on Natty beta1.

Does updating udev as described in the "Known issues" section of the Maverick beta release notes at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/maverick/beta fix the problem?

@madbiologist: I need some additional hints.
The only udev version available in my package manager is 162-1, which is higher than the one proposed on http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/maverick/beta, shall I add any PPA to downgrade it?
Anyway, I tried to retry the 3G card. Some minutes after the hotplug, a new modemmanager crash happened (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/modemmanager/+bug/640094).

No, that's OK. Don't downgrade udev. The answer to my question in comment #2 is obviously "No".

Are usb-modeswitch and usb-modeswitch-data fully up to date? (What versions do you have?)

jpedros, please open a separate bug using 'ubuntu-bug modemmanager' just in case this is a different problem.
