Bug Description

Latest update of ubuntu-standard removes upstart by dependencies, and I'm no longer able to have them both installed together!

This is the intended behavior. If something on your system is not working with systemd, please file a specific bug for that issue.

To work around bugs with systemd in the meantime, there is a boot option available from the boot loader to let you boot with upstart instead of systemd. Information on changing which init you use, including a semi-permanent rollback to upstart, can be found here:

Bear in mind that upstart will cease to be supported as an option in a future Ubuntu release, so it's important that you report any problems you have booting your system under systemd.

I'm sorry, but at which point using init system other that systemd should break entire system dependencies?
Removing ubuntu-standard leaves many packages without upper dependency, and apt-get autoremove will clean many useful packages easily, I understand that you do not need upstart anymore, but why it conflicts with ubuntu-standard???

upstart-bin still present, but as soon as I'm purging upstart packages I'm unable to use alternative init system, upstart just stuck on Ubuntu logo. When configs from upstart package still exists it boots fine.

P.S. I would be happy to switch to systemd, but for whatever reason it boots into recovery console, and manual starting Xorg doesn't work either. I'm waiting when it will be resolved, should be pretty common issue.
