Bug Description

Hello,

It would be nice if update-notifier would respect the XDG Base Directory Specification [1], so that it would not pollute the user's home folder. As far as I have seen, there is only one file create "hooks-seen", which should belong to $XDG_DATA_HOME/update-notifier.

Will come with a patch soon.

How come Cristian KLEIN's patch has not been reviewed/applied? It is very simple and similar to those already applied by many other gtk-based projects.

I have already reviewed the patch, and it seems good, the only question is why the hooks_seen file gets stored in the XDG_DATA_HOME folder, in my oppinion it is rather a config or cache thing and maybe should go into XDG_CONFIG_HOME or XDG_CACHE_HOME, I can supply a revised patch if needed.

Maybe someone familiar with update-notifier can make a qualified statement?
