I think I noticed this earlier, when working out how to set up my development environment. applets/ prefix file with a bit of code like:
Is it plausible to replace the /etc/universal-
import sys join(os. path.abspath( sys.argv[ 0]), '..')
import os
prefix = os.path.
As far as I can see, this would make things a lot easier to manage, since you could then have mutliple UA installs without any issues. (e.g.: install into your home folder for development, and onto /usr/local/ for other users)
