Bug Description

The power indicator should hide itself when I click on the "Battery Settings..." button. Currently it opens the settings application, but doesn't hide itself, so it looks like nothing has happened.

nskaggs, did you mean to mark this as "Confirmed" rather than "Incomplete"?

Adding also-affects Unity8 because the indicators themselves don't manage showing/hiding the menus.

The indicators need to add some context to their actions so that unity8 will know to close an indicator's menu after activating some actions but not others. (eg, we always want to hide the menu after clicking "Date & Time Settings..." but not after changing the screen brightness value.)

Dednick suggested adding a "launches-app" tag to the states of actions that launch apps. This tag would need to be added to the various indicators' "System Settings..." actions and also to the actions for the datetime indicator's appointment menuitems.

By definition all things passed the URL dispatcher launch apps. Without exception. So there is no need to add any other context to the URL. Upstart App Launch passes the focus and/or start event to Unity, when receiving that event it should close the indicator menu.

As far as dismissing the menu goes on items, it should do that for all standard items anyway. Sliders are an exception not the rule.

It shouldn't dismiss after every activation. Why would enabling wifi dismiss the menu? You would generally want to select an access point after that.
